More than $3M in improvements underway ahead of Super Bowl 51

HOUSTON - With Super Bowl 51 a little less than three months away, more than $3 million dollars worth of improvements are already happening around NRG Park. On Thursday, crews were installing some of the thousands of feet of new sidewalk that will eventually fill the area around NRG Stadium, which is hosting the big game. This week crews also replanted the first two of what will eventually be 31 trees near the stadium, saved from a construction zone along Post Oak Boulevard near the Galleria. The project will also feature new lighting, landscaping, and way-finding signs. A mix of private and public sources have chipped in the money needed so far to cover most of the price tag. “It’s across the board, whether it’s the Livestock show, whether it’s the Texans, whether it’s Harris County, TXDOT, CenterPoint, on and on and on, the impressive Houston way, if you will, of stepping up and making it happen has been phenomenal,” said Ed Wulfe, Chairman of Stadium Park Redevelopment Authority. Wulfe says SPRA is still looking to raise another $300,000 or so to finish the remaining landscaping work by game time.
