Project Scope
Boyer expanded a 30MVA substation to 70MVA by expanding the 138Kv ring bus to five gas circuit breakers from four. This required very close coordination with CenterPoint, ERCOT and all UH managers. To utilize this addition of power, a new 12,470 volt switchgear house was added with two new breakers to feed the Main Campus, two new breakers to feed the ERP Campus and two tie breakers back to the original power transformers in the substation for a diversity of power. A total of 24 precast power manholes were installed on the two campuses.
7,026’ of duct bank was installed from the Substation throughout the Main Campus to relieve existing power overloads. A new 12,470 volt switchgear addition was added to the Main Campus to distribute the power through the campus. Two large 3 conductor 1250Kcmil per phase feeders were installed from the substation to this switchgear 3000’ away.
4,100’ of duct bank was installed from the Substation throughout the ERP Campus to facilitate removal of CenterPoint overhead distribution. Three medium voltage automatic rollover switches were installed throughout the campus to distribute the power to eight new pad mounted transformer, two existing CenterPoint transformers and one existing UH dry type transformer. Two 1000Kcmil feeders were installed though the manholes with feed through junctions to distribute the 12,470volts as described.
