Ohio River Inteceptor Emergency Rehabilitation Project

Project Scope

Boyer successfully completed the trenchless rehabilitation of 1,400 linear feet (LF) of the Ohio River Interceptor (ORI) for the Louisville Metropolitan Sewer District (MSD). Built in 1958, this 7’x7’ semi-elliptical combined sewer handles flows from roughly 40% of MSD’s service area. Operating as the subcontractor under emergency conditions and a strict deadline, Boyer utilized the Danby Grouted-In-Place-Lining (GIPL) system. The scope involved surface hydro-blasting, rebar installation, liner placement, and high-strength structural grout pumping. To maintain a strictly trenchless footprint, all operations were executed through a single access hatch located 1,400 feet from the project’s end. Driven by the critical nature of the timeline, Boyer crews worked 12-to-14-hour shifts, six days a week, for five consecutive months, ultimately delivering the project on schedule and within budget.
